FAST Logistics Group, the Philippines’ leading provider of end-to-end logistics solutions, underscored its commitment to advancing tech-enabled and more resilient supply chains as it championed Industry 4.0 innovation at Digital Next Philippines 2026.
Held on Tuesday, June 2, at Makati Diamond Residences, Digital Next Philippines 2026 conference convened policymakers, industry leaders, technology experts, and investors to discuss emerging risks, market opportunities, and the strategies shaping one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing digital economies.
Speaking at the conference’s panel discussion, “Engineering the Future: Industry 4.0 Innovation for an Intelligent and Sustainable Economy,” FAST Chief Information Officer Leo Sacamos Jr. emphasized that Industry 4.0 is no longer simply about automation but about enabling organizations to make faster, more intelligent decisions through data.
“Industry 4.0 is not just about automating processes. It’s about harnessing data to make better decisions and create more intelligent operations,” said Leo.
The session was moderated by Kenneth Sy, Chief Technology Officer of Rex Group of Companies and featured panelists Arlene Romasanta, Director IV and CIO of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR); Edison Dungo, Director for Information Directorate of Manila Doctors Hospital; Ernesto Rufino Jr., Vice President for ICT of Royal Cargo; and Maria Rosell Gomez, Partner for Risk Services and Forensics Leader of PwC Philippines.

Industry 4.0: Leveraging Automation and Technology for Data-Driven Decisions and Agile Solutions
During the panel, Leo highlighted how real-time data and advanced analytics are reshaping logistics operations by providing visibility into critical performance indicators such as fleet utilization, truck turnaround times, shipment location, delivery speed, route optimization, and carbon emissions.
According to Leo, these capabilities allow logistics providers to shift from reactive operations to predictive decision-making, enabling organizations to anticipate disruptions, optimize resources, and improve efficiency across the supply chain.
“Reliable insights start with reliable data,” he said. “Organizations can only maximize the value of digital technologies when they have confidence in the information driving their decisions.”
FAST has long recognized technology as a strategic enabler of growth and customer success. As one of the country’s largest integrated logistics providers, FAST continues to invest in technologies that strengthen operational excellence.
Under Leo’s leadership, the company has accelerated its digital transformation initiatives through enterprise platforms and intelligent technologies, including SAP Analytics, Zoho, ZingHR, HubSpot, and FarEye, an AI-powered delivery management platform.
“Today, we’re at a point where artificial intelligence and advanced analytics can help us unlock greater visibility, agility, and efficiency across our operations,” Leo said.
FAST, a one-stop solution provider for comprehensive logistics and distribution services, offers multi-modal transport solutions covering land, sea, and air transportation. It also offers freight forwarding and cross-dock service across major cities to help companies achieve network efficiencies and lower delivery costs.
The Hidden Cost of AI: Energy Consumption
The discussion also explored the growing adoption of AI across industries and the challenges that come with it. While acknowledging AI’s potential to transform business processes, Leo cautioned organizations to consider the resources required to support large-scale AI adoption.
“AI is not entirely free,” he said. “Behind every AI-generated output are computing resources, energy consumption, and infrastructure requirements that organizations need to consider.”
With increasing demand for data centers, processors, memory, and computing power, energy efficiency is emerging as a critical consideration in responsible AI implementation.
“Data fuels AI, but energy is ultimately the currency that powers it,” Leo added. “As organizations embrace AI, we must also become more conscious of the resources consumed relative to the value being generated.”
This perspective aligns with FAST’s commitment to sustainable innovation, ensuring technology investments create measurable business outcomes while supporting broader environmental and operational goals.

The Evolving Role of Technology Leadership
Leo likewise noted that technology leaders are playing an increasingly strategic role in guiding organizations through digital transformation.
“The CIO of today is not simply the person deploying technology,” he said. “We also serve as a guardrail, helping organizations navigate opportunities, manage risks, and ensure that innovation creates sustainable business value.”
The panel also examined the transition toward Industry 5.0, where human expertise and advanced technologies work together more closely. Panelists agreed that despite rapid advances in AI, human judgment, accountability, and trust will remain central to decision-making across industries.
In healthcare, AI is increasingly viewed as augmented intelligence that supports medical professionals rather than replacing them. Similarly, in logistics, Leo noted that AI can generate recommendations, optimize planning, and improve visibility, but human judgment remains essential for strategic decisions and customer service.
For FAST, the future lies in combining the power of technology with the experience, expertise, and accountability of people, Leo said.
FAST uses AI-powered dashcams with machine learning technology across its extensive fleet to swiftly detect and address distracted driving, road hazards, and other risks in real-time. It is designed to comprehensively monitor and ensure the safety of driver, fleet, and products throughout the delivery process. FAST AI dashcam also captures and transmits live video footage to the FAST Command Center, allowing personnel to make real-time, data-driven decisions if needed.
